Algarve hosts music for our ears

September and October continue to be busy months in Algarve for music events.

Playing the masters

Starting with September 20 and 22; two dates for your diary, especially for fans of the piano and violin.

Os Agostos, close to Santa Bárbara de Nexe, will be hosting two concerts where pianist Katya Apekisheva and violinist Pavel Fischer will play works by the masters including Beethoven, Bach, Gershwin and Ravel.

Both musicians are based in London. Katya is from Russia and Pavel from the Czech Republic.

They are appearing at the request of Amigos de Música. This international non-profit organisation stages musical activities and sponsors young Portuguese musicians.

To book tickets click here. A donation of €30 per person is requested which includes canapés and refreshments. Doors open each evening at 6pm and the concerts begin at 7pm.

Algarve Jazz Orchestra

Two other concerts have been announced for September 18 and 24 by the Algarve Jazz Orchestra (Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve).

The first is in Loulé at the Cineteatro and the second in Albufeira’s municipal auditorium.

Both concerts start at 9pm with tickets costing €8 and €5 respectively.

Guests for each concert include American saxophonist Rick Margitza and Portuguese singers Vânia Fernandes and Maria Anadon.

Charity event in Faro

On September 30, Teatro das Figuras in Faro hosts the “I Promise to Live” charity event. Several national artists will entertain for a one-off concert in aid of the Salvador Association.

The association was founded by Salvador Mendes de Almeida after a motorbike accident left him a paraplegic.

Promoting integration of physically disabled people in society, the association aims to improve people’s quality of life and educate others.

The concert starts at 9pm, tickets can be bought online.
