This late summer, Lagoa will again host the ‘Mostra dos Doces Conventuais’, a celebration of traditional sweets and Portimão’s Arrebita event brings Michelin-starred chefs to the streets.
Meanwhile, Lagos will feature two nights of great music as part of the “Noites no Cais” series. These events all offer those visiting a blend of Portuguese culture, cuisine and entertainment.
Doces Conventuais
Lagoa is set to celebrate its 20th edition of ‘Mostra dos Doces Conventuais’ from August 29 to September 1 at Convento São José.
This free event showcases traditional conventual sweets made from recipes created by nuns. Visitors can also enjoy cakes, liqueurs, jams, honey, and other local delights.
The programme includes confectionary workshops for children and demonstrations of famous Algarve sweets. Highlighting the event will be Ana Remígio’s award-winning cake design exhibition, ‘Açucár Encantado’.
Mostra dos Doces Conventuais runs from 7pm to midnight daily, offering a delightful mix of sweet treats and cultural entertainment.
Arrebita Portimão
Arrebita Portimão returns this September 7-8 for its fifth edition, transforming the Alameda square into a culinary haven.
Michelin-starred chefs like Vincent Farges and Natalhie Inês will dish out gourmet delights for €7 each, while João Lopes adds his flair from Bon Bon. The event merges street food convenience with haute cuisine, perfect for exploring ‘on the go’.
There will be show cooking sessions by renowned chefs promise to unveil culinary secrets, complemented by DJ beats and don’t miss the Producers’ Market showcasing Algarve’s finest, from olive oils to regional wines.
This festival not only tantalizes taste buds but celebrates Portugal’s rich culinary heritage.
Noites no Cais
Lagos will host two major musical events on September 7 and 8 as part of the “Noites no Cais” series.
The Cais das Descobertas will transform into a grand stage, with audiences also enjoying performances in the Jardim da Constituição.
On September 7, rising artist Noble will perform an intimate acoustic show featuring piano and guitar.
On September 8, The Gift will present their ambitious “Coral Histórico” project, blending a classical choir with their music, including sign language and audio descriptions for accessibility.
