Art in Public View
Portimão’s Museum has opened its new temporary exhibition “A Cidade Fala” (The City Speaks).
Capturing the essence of Portimão’s residents, this photographic exhibition showcases portraits of the local community by João Mariano, João Tuna and Filipe da Palma. The exhibition runs until January 26, 2025.
This initiative, part of the programme Lavrar o Mar – Cooperativa Cultural (Ploughing the Sea – Cultural Cooperative) in collaboration with Portimão’s council, celebrates the 100th anniversary of Portimão’s designation as a city, granted on December 11, 1924.
Featuring 55 portraits displayed in the museum’s windows, the photographs depict merchants, teachers, artists, fishermen and many more.
On January 24, prior to closing the exhibition, a documentary by young locals Jonas Canelo and João Hébil will be screened. This film explores residents’ reflections on their city’s future.
Street nativity scene
The Christmas market, with a record number of exhibitors, is open for two days, November 23 and 24, and will turn the town centre into a magical space filled with handicrafts, unique gifts, traditional delicacies, and attractions like Santa’s house, a Christmas train, carousels, and inflatables.
Visitors can also explore a 300-metre street nativity scene from November 23 to January 7. Stretching between the Parish Church to the Chapel of Our Lady of Guia, the scene showcases 30 sculptures by Toin Adams, narrating the nativity story.
All attractions and activities are free.
