As autumn approaches, the Algarve is still bustling with vibrant activities that cater to music lovers, gardening enthusiasts and aspiring performers. From a series of sunset concerts at iconic locations, to an open stage for budding musicians at AlgarveShopping and the Mediterranean Gardening Fair in Lagoa, there’s something for everyone.
More sunset concerts
ArQuente is presenting a series of sunset concerts in breathtaking locations, promising unforgettable experiences for attendees. Every weekend through September, the musical magic unfolds at picturesque settings: Fridays at 6.30pm on Culatra Island’s Largo da Igreja, Saturdays at 7pm at Faro’s Galeria Arco, and Sundays at 5.30pm at Sagres Fortress.
Pedro Branco, renowned for his guitar prowess from past performances, takes centre stage on September 13, 14, and 15 with his solo project, adding a personal touch to the “Concertos ao Entardecer” (Concerts at Dusk).
Following him, Jasmim, known for her role in Mighty Sands, will captivate audiences on September 20, 21, and 22 with her keyboard skills, ensuring the concerts conclude on a high note.
The stage is all yours
AlgarveShopping, in Guia, is hosting the final stop of the Openstage tour in Portugal, offering an exciting opportunity for local musicians from September 6 to October 27.
A stage set up on the ground floor invites anyone who enjoys singing or playing an instrument to take part in the “Plug in here. The stage is all yours” challenge.
This innovative initiative, created by an Italian start-up for smart cities, provides an autonomous platform where musicians can connect their equipment and perform independently.
Registration is free via the Openstage App, allowing artists to create profiles, book slots, and unlock the stage via Bluetooth on the day of their performance.
In addition to this open platform, AlgarveShopping has scheduled performances by national artists every weekend at 4pm; Filipa Sousa on September 14, João Pid on September 22, and Mário Marques closing out the series on October 27.
Garden green
For the first time, the Autumn Mediterranean Gardening Fair will be held at FATACIL, in Lagoa, on November 2 and 3, from 10am to 5pm.
Traditionally hosted in Silves, the event has moved due to venue availability. This year’s fair celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Mediterranean Gardening Association Portugal (MGAP) and focuses on sustainable gardening practices with minimal water use.
Visitors will enjoy exhibitions and a wide variety of plants suitable for Algarve gardens, including native species, ornamental plants, and fruit trees from specialised suppliers.
A full programme of workshops, demonstrations, and expert talks on sustainable gardening is planned, along with stands offering botanical art, gardening crafts, and organic products.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their own bags to reduce waste, and entry is €1. More details can be found at www.mgaportugal.org.
