Night racing and fan fun
From August 9 to 11, the Algarve International Racetrack (AIA) in Portimão will host the Pirelli Portuguese Round of the World Superbike Championship.
This is the 7th round of 12 between February and October 2024 and promises to be different with races taking place late in the day and at night.
The event is drawing motorsport fans from around the globe to witness world-class riders tackle the new concept to the Championship.
Beyond the races, spectators can enjoy paddock access, fan zones and possible autograph sessions, making it an unforgettable weekend of speed and skill.
Tickets are available from here, starting at €20. Children under 7 years can enter free of charge but do not have a seat. To enter they must have passport or ID cards with them and be accompanied by an adult.
Feast for the senses
Seafood lovers will be able to delight in Olhão’s Festival de Marisco from August 10 to 14 from 7.30pm.
The festival, held in the heart of Olhão, showcases the freshest seafood sourced locally including cockles, clams and oysters plus cataplana and seafood rice.
Local bands and entertainers will add to the festive atmosphere, turning the event into a lively gathering of both locals and tourists.
Entrance costs €10 (adult) and €5 (children 7-12) with five-day passes from €22.50.
Medieval nights
From August 9 to 17, the historic town of Silves transports visitors back in time with its annual Medieval Fair.
Set against the backdrop of the town’s impressive castle, cobbled streets and alley ways, this event offers a captivating journey back in time.
The centre of the town will be lined with stalls selling traditional crafts, food, and drink. There will be entertainment by jugglers, knights in armour and musicians playing medieval tunes.
The fair also features reenactments of historical events, including battles and courtly ceremonies, bringing to life the rich history of this former Moorish capital.
Open from 6pm to 1am, tickets cost €2 with children, shorter than 1.3 m or up to 9 years, free of charge.
If you want to buy a cup which can be filled with drinks at different stalls entrance plus the cup will be €5.
Fancy dressing in clothes of the times? This will cost a mere €3 for adults and €2 for children.
Visitors can enjoy duels and also Orient Nights at Xaraib for an extra €5 whilst the Medieval Experience costs €75 for an adult and €35 for a child. Tickets can be bought online here or on the night at the ticket office.
