Algarve August events

Algarve is seeing quite a few summer events happening this August. We look at two that may interest you along with the Algarve tourist board’s new promotional video.

Golf is inclusive

Originally to be played earlier in the year in Sweden, the European Championship for Golfers with Disability had to be rescheduled and is now to be played, from August 22 to 24, on the O’Connor Jnr course at Amendoeira Golf Resort.

Due to Covid-19, the biennial tournament was cancelled in 2020, having last been played at Troia Golf Resort in 2018.

The three-round stroke play event with categories for men, ladies and wheelchair players is organised jointly by the European Disabled Golf Association (EDGA) and the European Golf Association (EGA).

With 80 players due to tee off at Amendoeira for the individual event, the team championships alternate each year with the individuals, the resort is gearing up to making all facilities fully available to those playing and those supporting the players.

It will be possible to watch the event on the course however, you will need to buy tickets online. Click here for further information.

Culture lives

As in previous years, the cultural event ESTAR will be offering street entertainment in the towns and villages of Burgau, Budens, Salema, Barão de São Miguel and Vila do Bispo.

Acts include stilt walkers, puppetry, clowns, story-telling, theatrical pieces and café concerts.

Taking place between August 18 and 21, entrance is free but please note that places are limited even though the events are taking place outside.

Visitors will need to pick-up tickets at designated places in the villages and towns, as well as at performance venues, one hour prior to the start of each event.

Promoting Algarve

The Algarve tourism board is working hard behind the scenes to promote Algarve and has produced another promotional video to encourage last-minute summer bookings in the region.

With the pandemic in mind, the video promotes the outdoor lifestyle that is so much part of Algarve living.

With the beaches and nature reserves, amazing waves, lagoons and golf courses, cycling and walking trails not to mention al fresco cooking and dining, the region is full of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.

It is certainly a holiday destination with so much going for it — for sure there is something for everyone.
