Algarve events this autumn

You would be wrong in thinking, as the winter evenings draw in and the region seems a little less busy, that there is very little to see or do in Algarve this autumn.

Theatre

This weekend The Algarveans has its first production for two years, following an enforced hiatus due to the pandemic. Duets, a comedy in four acts, is on stage in Lagoa for October 22 and 23.

If you enjoy an evening of theatre, or more to the point opera, Carmen will be at Faro’s Figuras Theatre on October 27 opening at 9pm.

Carmen is an excellent opera for beginners. The story is based in Spain and follows a free-spirited gipsy, who works in a cigarette factory and whose love is Escamillo, a bullfighter. However, Don José, a soldier, is obsessed with Carmen but he is engaged to Micaela. How does it all unravel?

Zoo Lagos

Zoo Lagos will be opening its Magizoology Centre for Harry Potter fans for two days, October 30 and 31.

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn how to make spider webs, glow-in-the-dark eyes and of course it wouldn’t be complete without a “Sorting Hat Ceremony”.

There will be a night tour on October 31 allowing visitors to learn about the zoo’s nocturnal creatures whilst seeing them in their natural habitat.

To take part you must register and there are limited places. Book by email or contact the zoo by phone (+351) 282680100.

Zoomarine

The theme park Zoomarine will be opening from October 20-31 having had a total makeover including “skeletons, giant spiders, zombies and ghosts”.

The 4D movie theatre will screen “Spooky Park”, there will be activities including face painting, live entertainment and of course Spooky Street — a walk-through to “enjoy”.
