Lagoa’s Piano Festival
Lagoa’s Piano Festival returns in May with four concerts at the Carlos do Carmo auditorium.
The festival starts on May 8, at 6.30pm, with a concert including a solo piano recital by Artur Pizarro, a world-renowned concert pianist.
Artur Pizarro started studying the piano at three years of age at the Lisbon Conservatory of Music and made his television debut at four!
The second concert takes place at Mexilhoeira da Carregação’s parish church on May 15, again starting at 6.30pm.
This concert will feature jazz pianist Alexandre Dahmen playing some of his own music plus a combination of traditional America jazz.
May 22, again at 6.30pm, pianist Cristina Silva and cellist Sunita Mamtani will perform at Porches parish church. The recital includes pieces by Rachmaninov, Beethoven and Frederico de Freitas.
The festival concludes on May 27 at the Carlos do Carmo auditorium. Starting at 9pm a collection of artists will be playing piano and percussion. Music by Bartók, Debussy and Portuguese composer Teresa Gentil are to be performed by the ensemble.
Throughout the festival piano workshops will be held at local schools together with performances at local nursing homes.
Performance on May 15 and 22 are free of charge however, tickets for the first and last concerts will cost €8. Tickets are available at the Carlos do Carmo auditorium and also online at ticketline.pt.
Triplo
The same theatre is also hosting the new dance spectacle Triplo, on May 7.
Three choreographers from three different countries; Portugal, Spain and France represent different styles of dance including contemporary, urban and interdisciplinary.
Seven young dancers from Kale Dance Company will perform Triplo. Admission costs €8 with tickets available from the auditorium, Fnac, Worten or online at Ticketline.pt.
