The Algarve Almond Blossom Festival

Nestled in the eastern Algarve, Alta Mora will host the Almond Blossom Festival again this year.

The festival is a vibrant celebration of art, culture, and local heritage, born out of the walking tours organised by Associação Recreativa, Cultural e Desportiva dos Amigos (Friends Recreational, Cultural and Sports Association).

From its humble beginnings in 2005, where just 50 enthusiasts embarked on the inaugural walks amidst blooming almond trees, the festival has blossomed into a major cultural event. In 2020, it marked a significant milestone, drawing over 1,000 participants and firmly establishing itself as a beacon of cultural expression.

Spanning three days, the festival offers a tapestry of experiences for visitors. Nature enthusiasts can walk scenic trails enjoying the delicate almond blossom that paint the landscape in hues of pink and white. The bustling street market showcases the craftsmanship of local producers and artisans, offering a treasure trove of handmade goods and local delicacies.

A highlight of the festival is the Artisan’s Village, a nostalgic nod to traditional craftsmanship. Here, artisans breathe life into age-old techniques, from pottery to weaving, preserving ancestral knowledge for future generations. Interactive workshops abound, inviting attendees to participate in activities such as planting almond trees or mastering the art of crafting traditional breads and cheeses.

No festival in the Algarve would be complete without a culinary journey. Gastronomic delights reign supreme, with the spotlight on the legendary giant almond tart—a marvel that grows by a metre with each passing edition, with an impressive 43 metres in 2025.

Beyond its aesthetic beauty and culinary delights, the Algarve Almond Blossom Festival serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of community and cultural pride. It bridges the gap between generations, fostering an appreciation for local traditions and the natural splendour that defines this picturesque corner of Portugal.
