The Algarve is for families

With its sun, sand and sea, the Algarve has long been a holiday destination for families and couples alike. We’ve put together a short list of ways for families on holiday to enjoy the Algarve at its best.

With good weather and plenty of space to enjoy the outdoors, children of all ages will relish all the region has to offer.

As well as being one of the safest countries in the world, Portugal is also one of the most fun. We share three activities that make the region so appealing for your family.

Making a splash

We can’t talk about the Algarve for families without mentioning its famous water parks. Nothing spells fun better than a day out at Slide & Splash, Aqualand or Aquashow, and children (young and old!) are guaranteed to enjoy the many slides, mats, tubes and pools, from April to October.

Interacting with animals

For those interested in the animal kingdom, the Algarve has plenty to choose from. As well as roller coasters and water attractions, Zoomarine offers animal shows and the opportunity to swim with dolphins. At Krazy World, you can feed animals at the petting zoo and learn about more exotic creatures, as well as play crazy golf, try your hand at go-karting or just have a dip in the pool. Or enjoy a day trip at Lagos Zoo, read about their 21st celebration.

All aboard!

Get the family together and explore the Algarve’s beautiful coastline, with caves, grottoes and secluded beaches just waiting to be discovered. Get the snorkels out and take a look at life underwater or stop for a picnic and some beach activities. Several companies also offer dolphin-watching trips, a unique experience for the whole family to see these creatures in their natural habitat.

Discover the coast using the new hop on, hop off bus route or some of the shorter walking, running or cycling trails.
